Localism and Big System Change in the NHS

Lord Warner Leads Debate on Locally-led Innovation. Former Health Minister, Lord Norman Warner, is a keynote speaker at a HaCIRIC Forum asking how localism can deliver major innovation amid the complexity of the NHS and social services. Mike Burrows, Chief Executive, Greater Manchester PCT Cluster, and John de Pury,NHS Confederation, will also present on ‘Localism and Big System Change in the NHS’. The event on Wednesday 22 May will be chaired by Rob Smith, former DH Director of Estates and Facilities. The forum will particularly focus on issues related to the reorganisation of infrastructure. Fresh thinking on managing unscheduled care

Work to better manage unscheduled care in the wider system remains highly challenging. Our autumn seminar aims to look at some of the experiences in implementing more streamlined emergency care, reflect on the challenges of whole systems working, report on some of the work within HaCIRIC and open a discussion on the management of unscheduled care in a time where patient demand and the pressure on A&E remains high and where new outcome measures are used to manage unscheduled care.

Planning for more resilient healthcare in emergencies under increasing risks and decreasing budgets

This workshop aims to bring together a multi disciplinary group to share their experiences and discuss how the resilience of emergency services to major incidents and extreme weather events could be improved. It will explore and discuss: •potential risks associated with extreme weather events and emergency departments; •potential impact of budget cutbacks on emergencies; •possibilities for more effective use of resources to better manage emergencies; •strategies for effective collaboration, other services; and •short and long-terms priorities for emergency services.
